Baseline Survey of Border Villages in ANDAMAN & NICOBAR

Kalyan Trust, a leading non-profit organization, has recently undertaken a comprehensive baseline survey of border villages in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. This crucial initiative aims to gather critical data on the socio-economic conditions, developmental needs, and challenges faced by the communities residing in these remote and often marginalized areas.

The survey, conducted by a team of experienced researchers and social workers, involved in-depth interviews with residents, community leaders, and local government officials. Key areas of focus included:

  • Socio-economic conditions: Income levels, employment opportunities, access to education and healthcare, food security, and poverty levels.
  • Infrastructure and connectivity: Availability of electricity, water supply, transportation, communication, and internet access.
  • Environmental concerns: Impact of climate change, coastal erosion, and natural disasters.
  • Cultural and social issues: Traditional knowledge, cultural preservation, and social cohesion within the communities.
  • Developmental needs and priorities: Identification of key areas where support and intervention are most urgently required.

The findings of this baseline survey will be instrumental in guiding the development and implementation of targeted programs and interventions by Kalyan Trust and other stakeholders. These initiatives will aim to address the specific needs of the border communities and improve their overall quality of life.

The KALYAAN Initiative is a comprehensive program designed to empower communities and foster sustainable development through its four key pillars: Vidya Daan, focusing on education for underprivileged children; Chikitsa Yaan, providing accessible healthcare services to remote and underserved areas; Naari Uthaan, uplifting women by promoting skill development and financial independence; and Gram Nirmaan, driving holistic rural development with better infrastructure and livelihoods. Together, these initiatives embody the mission of KALYAAN, creating a pathway to a brighter, inclusive, and self-reliant future for all.
